Watch Recordings: Badger Crop Connect – Crops and Soils

  • April 9, 2026 topic is Spring Ag OutlooksDr. Paul Mitchell, UW–Madison professor of agricultural and applied economics, will present a spring economic outlook. We have seen headlines about the current crisis in farming, even the “widespread collapse of American agriculture,” and most of these were before we started a war with Iran. In this webinar, we will take an honest look at current economic indicators for the state of farm economy to better understand why the current state may indeed be a crisis. We will then review recent policy responses and those that are in action now or soon to be, and then discuss what soon be coming for farm policies. We will then close by talking about what crop farmers can do now in the face of this market and policy uncertainty as they prepare to plant the 2026 crop. Josh Bendorf, UW–Madison Extension climate outreach specialist, will look back into winter weather trends and present a spring weather outlook.
